The candle is traditionally a symbol of warmth and light. In this special season it is also a symbol of God's gift to us, of His light and direction in the form of His son. This truly is a time to give thanks and praise and to pray for peace on earth, as the angels did 2000 years ago. This recording is our way of joining in the thanksgiving and celebration by using our gift of music. We've carefully selected and arranged Christmas songs that are special to us and hopefully will become special to you. This recording has been a labor of love for all of us. It has been a wonderful experience working together in the studio with Steve Hall. He is a marvelous person and his ideas and musical talent are truly gifts. We are proud to share in this recording with him.
Mike and I (Mike Watts & Dan Savant, recording artists) were talking one day about how we both enjoy spending time with our families during the holidays. Holiday traditions seem to hold an extra special place in our memories. We both love the celebrations that accompany each particular season, especially Christmas. We spoke of how we keep those family traditions alive by sharing them with our children, knowing that they will, in turn, share them with their families one day. Seeing brass groups on snowy street corners, or singing carols on Christmas Eve in the warm glow of candlelight brought back peaceful memories. Going to church to celebrate the birth of our Lord and opening gifts on Christmas morning brought even more heartwarming images to mind. As we reminisced, we marveled at these traditions and at all the gifts God has bestowed on us by giving us our families and our music.
The first candlelight Christmas was in a manger in Bethlehem. On that special night a candle gave off precious light as the Christ Child was born. In praise and thanksgiving, choirs of angels sang out "Glory to God in the highest and peace to His people on earth" (Luke 2:14). As we continue to pass on our family traditions, we are blessed with candlelight Christmases every year that continue to spread the same joy and peace of that first Candlelight Christmas.
